Black Friday Shopping with Limited Mobility: Planning Your Strategy

Posted on: October 22nd, 2015 by Bellin Health Home Care Equipment Blogger

black friday shopping mobility tips

For many people, Black Friday is an annual family tradition. But, how do you safely manage the crowds when using a wheelchair or mobility scooter? With a little bit of planning, you can still enjoy this annual event:

Make a schedule

If you plan out your schedule ahead of time, it can make things easier. Don’t forget to account for rest periods, meal breaks and the density of the crowd.

Even on the best of days, getting around a mall all day can prove to be taxing. Added to that is the fact that aisles in mall stores are notoriously cramped, making it hard to navigate with your mobility equipment. This is when it’s great to have a friend or family member along—someone who can dash up the aisles when needed. This is also a good time to think about renting or buying a mobility scooter if you use a walker or cane—it can really help you endure this crazy day of shopping.

Waiting in Line

Lines can be especially daunting, as people will often wait in them for hours. Some people opt to bring a folding chair with them, but what do you do when it’s time to pack it up and move with the line? It’s pretty hard to do that and hold onto your mobility device, especially when you have eager people pushing up against you. One way to get around this is to have a friend or family member there to assist you. You can leave the folding chair in place and have that person drive up right when the store opens and pick the chair up. It saves them from having to get up early and wait in line, and it saves you from putting wear and tear on your joints.

Here at Bellin Health Home Care Equipment, we want our customers to be able to take part in the things they’ve enjoyed their whole lives. That’s why we carry a wide range of mobility equipment in our online catalog.
