There are ways for you to manage your arthritis so you can live in less pain.

It’s a disease that impacts millions of Americans every day, causing pain, limiting mobility and affecting your life by making things harder. We’re talking about arthritis, and if you’ve dealt with this condition, you’re not alone.

Bellin Health Home Care Equipment knows the toll arthritis can take, but we also know that there are things you can do to help yourself, reduce your pain and regain your independence. May is National Arthritis Awareness Month, and we’re here to bring you some tips to help manage your arthritis.

Big Changes

There are some lifestyle changes that you’ll have to make if you’re serious about improving the symptoms of your arthritis. If you’re overweight or obese, making the decision to eat healthy and exercise can help you. Don’t expect to lose a lot of weight in a short period of time, but losing weight can help improve your arthritis.

At the same time, quitting smoking can also help improve your arthritis. Because smoking hurts the connective tissues of the body, it can actually make arthritis work. Quitting smoking can reduce these effects, and also offers a host of other health benefits.

Minor Movements, Helpful Results

As much as it may seem counterintuitive, by moving more and doing gentle exercises, you can actually improve the symptoms related to arthritis. These exercises aren’t meant to be strenuous, but can have positive results and can be done from a seated position.  Doing things like adjusting the position you’re sitting in, stretching your arms and legs and getting up to walk around every so often can do wonders to improve your symptoms.

Don’t try to do too much, as doing high impact exercises can actually cause your symptoms to worsen. Avoid doing high impact exercises like running, jumping and aerobic sports.

Bellin Health Home Care Equipment wants to help improve your arthritis symptoms. We offer pain relievers to manage your pain and exercise equipment that can help you do low impact exercises in your home.
