Staying active in your Golden Years

Growing older doesn’t mean that you have to slow down! This week marks Active Aging Week, and for today’s blog, Bellin Health Home Care Equipment would like to cover a few ways that you can stay active well into your Golden Years:

Find a style that suits you

We’re talking about weighing your options between whether you want to exercise by yourself or take a class, what time of day you prefer to exercise and what type of exercise you prefer. Whether it’s cardio or muscle-building, or whether you prefer to be inside or outside, the important thing is to know what works for you. Once you can narrow down these exercise types, it will be easier to find a routine that fits you.

Don’t go so fast!

Sometimes, you start off on the first workout and you have plenty of steam, and you push yourself harder than you should. Other times, you remember what you used to be able do when you were in high school, and you try to reach that level again. Just remember that if you are getting physically active again for the first time in years, take it slowly and don’t overdo it, otherwise you may not be exercising again for a while!

Set some goals

These are great ways to keep yourself on track, and the more specific, the better. For example, try lifting some light weights during the morning news, take a 10-minute walk after each meal, etc. As you start to reach these smaller goals, it makes reaching the bigger ones that much more feasible!

Involve others

Encouragement can often make all the difference in the world when it comes to staying active! Whether it’s a workout buddy or friends and family who keep you accountable for your workout goals, find a way to create a support network.
