scooter transport

Finally, the temperatures are rising in Wisconsin and ALL OF US are ready to get outside to enjoy the weather.  You’ve got that new mobility scooter that you’ve been waiting all winter to use at the park, mall or farmers market, but there’s one problem – you aren’t sure how to transport your scooter to these places.  Not to worry – Bellin Health Home Care Equipment has you covered!  Our team has gotten together to provide you with 3 great options that will get you AND your mobility scooter wherever you want to go this summer!

Mobility Scooter Lift

The first option is to equip your vehicle with a mobility scooter lift.  This is a great solution if you have a personal vehicle that you can’t easily fit your mobility scooter inside of.  Most mobility scooter lifts are simple to roll your mobility scooter on to, easily fold up with not in use and keep your mobility scooter safe and secure while your vehicle is in motion.

Portable Ramps

If you own a vehicle that you can fit your mobility scooter inside of, such as a van or SUV, then a portable ramp may be the way to go.  Keep in mind that you’ll need to determine the safest length of portable ramp which pertains to the height of your vehicle floor and how easily you can set it up yourself.

Public Transportation

Before heading to the bus stop with your mobility scooter, check to be sure your city’s public buses are equipped with wheelchair lifts.  Know that in general, wheelchair or mobility scooter users are expected to load their mobility device within a 2 or 3 minute time period and that assistance will be available to secure the mobility device.  You will also need to be aware that most cities do not allow buses to operate a wheelchair lift on a hill, so travel to the nearest level ground bus stop.

If you’re worried about how to get around with your mobility scooter, Bellin Health Home Care Equipment is here to help.  Call our store today to discuss your scooter transport options to get you out and about this summer!
